A Big Mistake

A big mistake was made today,

When we followed a liar’s word,

Pulled up the gang-plank and sailed away,

From truth we never even heard.

A big mistake was made today,

And Europe shakes its head,

While it watches us turn our backs,

On the legacy of all those dead.

A big mistake was made today,

And when the church bells ring,

Remember that they’re telling us,

We’ve no voice left with which to sing.

A big mistake was made today,

One I fear we’ll rue,

Chlorinated chicken is on its way,

And there’s nothing we can do.

A big mistake was made today,

And mark my words you’ll see,

Soon the Union will collapse,

And then where will we be?

A big mistake was made today,

When nationalism spoke for me and you,

And what is ‘English’ anyway?

If not a European stew.

A big mistake was made today,

And to leave will be a wrench,

I fear being American against my will,

When I’d much prefer being French.
